MUI: The Price Is Too Expensive To Lose Because Politics Then The Unity Of The Nation Is Divided

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) invites the public to interpret the general election process (Pemilu) as a form of democratic development in Indonesia.

"We must interpret the upcoming election as a development of democracy, that is a necessity. Elections are part of the development of democracy that we have agreed on," said MUI Chairman Anwar Iskandar as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, December 1.

Anwar emphasized that in the democratic process, differences in political and opinion perspectives are normal. Differences in political views make people continue to process in order to realize a better state life.

But what is not allowed, he said, is when the differences in political views actually divide society. Differences should actually be the glue of unity.

"It's too expensive to lose because politics then national unity is divided," he said.

He also emphasized the invitation to prospective presidential and vice presidential candidates in the MUI III national work meeting (Mukernas), to hear their ideas directly.

Thus, the public can get an idea and then become the basis for the election day.

"There is a presidential candidate invited here (Mukernas), it does not mean that MUI has changed its political face to electoral politics. We just want to hear about the opinion of this candidate for leader," he said.

He also advised the candidates to continue to uphold the values of honesty and justice in the democratic process.

"The big goal of politics is to make benefits and benefits to the people. We must voice the value of honesty and justice in managing this country," he said.
