Amy Lee Remembers Evanescence's Victory At The 2004 Grammys, "Fry" With 50 Cent

JAKARTA - In an interview with the Daily Beast, Evanescence vocalist Amy Lee reflected on the band's victory as Best New Artist at the 2004 Grammy Awards, beating 50 Cent.

Rapper, who released his multi-platinum debut album Get Rich Or Die Tryin' in the previous year, was favored by music observers to get the award.

50 Cent then responded to the defeat by walking on stage during Evanescence's acceptance speech at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

'50 Cent hate my guts,' Lee told the Daily Beast.

"It was just one of those things... I mean, to be honest, we thought he would win too. It was a very wild night. People were wondering, 'How does it feel to win a Grammy?' and I was like, 'Stress!'," continued Amy.

"I mean, it's amazing now, having the award, but it's not real... I just remember thinking, 'I don't even think anyone in this room knows who we are.'"

The 50 Cent run to the Grammy Awards stage confused Amy and said, "Oh, what am I doing? Thank you, 50," but 50 didn't take the microphone or say anything, instead chose to just smile and make his presence feel.

"You know when you were shocked? He didn't do anything. He didn't take the microphone. It wasn't too bad," Amy recalled to the Daily Beast. "He just seemed to show up. It was like Zoolander when he thought he won."

Asked if the rapper had ever said anything to him personally after the incident, Amy replied: "No, he never said anything to me, but he liked to talk about me and how he was robbed."

"I don't want to start the problem with him. Thank you for saying that I looked unaffected, I was very disturbed. Everything around me was chaotic and I was like, 'I'm going to stand here and see if this is real later, whether I wake up or not.'"

Amy previously reflected on a 50 Cent meeting earlier this year during an interview with Metal Hammer. At the time, he said: "I'm pretty sure that we won't win, at least not Best New Artist. I think the winner is definitely 50 Cent. We're 100 percent black horses."

"I feel like, 'People don't know who I am'... I'm a 21, 22-year-old kid, trying to dress up like an adult and I take off my shoes when they call us. I usually don't wear rights shoes. It's very uncomfortable."

Three and a half years ago, 50 Cent complained of losing the Best New Artist award to Evanescence when he received a star at the Hollywood Walk Of Fame.

"You get your biggest hip-hop debut album [but] you don't get the Best New Artist trophy," 50 Cent said of the 2004 Grammy Awards ceremony. "Best New Artist, they gave that nonsense to Evanescence."

"Can you find Evanescence? I haven't seen Evanescence since that night. Since that night they have given them trophies."
