DPR Encourages Teachers To Become Modern Educators To Stabilize Children's Characters
JAKARTA - Still in the moment of commemoration of National Teacher's Day (HGN) which falls every November 25, Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) talks about the role of teachers at this time. In the era of technological advances, teachers are required to be able to keep up with the times so that they become modern educators.
"In today's era, teachers not only serve as conveyers of information, but also as guides, guides, and inspirations," said Member of Commission X DPR RI, Andreas Hugo Pareira, Monday, November 27.
"Teachers have a big responsibility in forming a generation with integrity, responsibility, and strong morality," he added.
The commemoration of National Teacher's Day (HGN) on November 25 is also the birthday of the Indonesian Teachers' Association (PGRI). This day is commemorated as a service award for teachers.
"A joint effort is needed between teachers, the DPR-backed Government, community institutions, and all Indonesian people to create an educational system that not only provides freedom of learning but also strengthens the character of students," said Andreas.
He added that Merdeka Learning is not only about curriculum freedom. But, said Andreas, it is also a starting point to strengthen students' character.
"Education is not only about academic knowledge. More than that, education is about forming strong morals and ethics in every next generation of the nation," he said.
Andreas highlighted how the current Independent Curriculum provides flexibility for educators to create quality learning that suits the needs and the learning environment of students. For this reason, teachers are reminded to be able to understand the personality of every student they are educated in.
Our children are currently living in the midst of the intense era of globalization. Here, the importance of teachers to be able to keep up with technological developments, so that the progress of the existing era does not have a bad impact on students, but is instead used for positive things," Andreas explained.

Teachers must become modern educators in order to strengthen the character of our children who are now in the era of progress. With the hope that teachers can direct our children not to be eroded by technological developments," added the legislator from the East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) I electoral district.
However, Andreas realized that in shaping the character of students, teachers need support in developing the quality of human resources (HR). He also advised the Government to support every teacher to improve their competence.
"Government support through training and education programs is needed to make teachers more advanced and have good quality," said Andreas.
"It must be remembered, teachers play a key role in producing future generations with integrity. By setting a good example and giving strong values, teachers not only prepare students for academic exams, but also for life exams," he continued.
On the other hand, Andreas encourages the Government through the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) to improve the welfare of teachers. Especially honorary teachers whose fate is still hanging in the process of appointing as Government Employees with Work Agreements (PPPK).
"Honorary teachers are waiting for their fate for the appointment of PPPK teachers. So that the Government is obliged to solve all of these things, starting from the absorption of formations, placement of teachers to guaranteeing their welfare," Andreas explained.
Moreover, the new State Civil Apparatus Law (ASN) has mandated that the Government guarantees for honorary employees following the abolition of honorary staff status in the government next year. Andreas hopes that the Government can appoint as many honorary teachers as possible.
"Next year, the target of 1 million teachers targeted by the Government must be realized as expected. So I ask that the absorption of formations in each region can also be maximized," said Andreas.
