China Masters 2023: Gregoria And Fajar/Rian To The Second Round

JAKARTA Gregoria Mariska Tunjung advanced to the second round of the 2023 China Masters. He defeated Thailand's Busanan Ongbamrungphan to extend his journey.

Gregoria, who is the seventh seed in the tournament, won two straight games 21-16 and 21-10 in 33 minutes at Shenzhen Bay Gymnasium, China, Wednesday, November 22, 2023.

This victory made the badminton player, who had just made history at the Japan Masters 2023 last week, sharpening the 6-3 win-loss record over Busanan.

Gregoria will next meet Nozomi Okuhara. The Japanese women's singles reached the second round of the BWF Super 750 level event by defeating the steps taken by China's Taipei representative, Wen Chi Hsu.

Nozomi, who is a former world champion, is still ahead of the 3-2 head-to-head against Gregoria. However, his two defeats against Gregoria actually occurred in the two latest meetings, namely at the Denmark Open 2023 and Japan Masters 2023.

Apart from Gregoria, the ticket to the second half was also secured by the men's doubles pair, Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto. The fourth seed repatriated the Japanese representative, Keiichiro Matsui/Yoshinori Takeuchi.

Fajar/Rian are the third men's doubles to qualify for the second round. Before them, Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Marthin and Pramudya Kusumawardana/Yeremia Rambitan had their tickets.
