The ambitious Antam

As a company that produces nickel, Antam seems to have suffered a windfall from a megaproject of electric vehicle batteries in the country. Moreover, Antam is also one of four BUMNs that are members of the electric battery holding or Indonesia Battery Holding (IBH).

The holding is a combination of MIND ID, PT Pertamina, PT PLN, and PT Aneka Tambang. Seeing this huge potential, Antam is also aiming for a number of ambitious targets this year, especially nickel.

Production and sales of the nickel commodity are set to grow by more than 50 percent in 2021. Based on the company's report, nickel ore production volume in 2020 (unaudited) reached 4.76 million wet metric tons (wmt).

Meanwhile, this year, Antam has set a nickel ore production volume at 8.44 million wmt. The volume is up 77 percent compared to last year's achievement.

SVP Corporate Secretary Aneka Tambang Kunto Hendrapawoko said the increase in nickel ore production will be used as raw material for the company's ferronickel factory and support sales to domestic customers.

In addition, Antam also targets nickel ore sales in 2021 to increase by 104 percent to 6.71 million wmt. In 2020, ANTM's unaudited nickel ore sales only reached 3.3 million wmt.

"The increase in the sales target is also in line with the outlook for the growth of the nickel processing industry in the country", Kunto said, quoted from his official statement.

Meanwhile, the target volume for ferronickel production and sales in 2021 is relatively stable, namely, amounting to 26.000 tons of nickel in ferronickel (TNi). The target is not much different from the 2020 achievement, namely unaudited production of 25.970 TNi and unaudited sales of 26.163 TNi.

Kunto explained that the target was adjusted to the steps to optimize the production of the company's ferronickel factory in Pomalaa, Southeast Sulawesi.
