KPI Explains Strategy To Reduce Carbon Emissions In Oil Processing
JAKARTA - PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI) explained a strategy in reducing carbon emission levels in the oil natural resource processing industry sector. "Regarding how to reduce industrial carbon emissions in processing (earth oil), there are three ways or three strategies that we can do," said PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional President Director Taufik Adityawarman, quoted from Antara, Tuesday, November 14. The first strategy is in terms of technology, namely creating energy efficiency in the operations of KPI's oil refinery. Taufik explained that as many as six oil refineries belonging to KPI have varying ages and some have even been established during the Dutch colonial era. "So that on our way through the process of rejuvenation, rejuvenation, and revaping using technology that yields energy efficiency better," explained Taufik. KPI also took the initiative in carrying out energy efficiency in its operations by minimizing exhaust gas emissions through the Flare Gas Recovery System, utilizing external energy sources such as the application of gasification and electrification, and optimizing processing parameters in refineries to suppress carbon emissions. In addition to encouraging energy efficiency, explained Taufik KPI also utilizes technology to run green business initiatives (green initiatives). With these initiations KPI produces types of environmentally friendly fuels such as Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Taufik explains the second strategy related to natural-based solutions (nature based solutions) in which in its operations, KPI still pays attention to the sustainability of the surrounding environment and carries out nature conservation programs, one of which is by planting trees.
