Received Lifetime Achievement Award, Eros Djarot: I'm Just A Musician And Song Creator Of Amateur

JAKARTA - Soegeng Rahardjo Djarot alias Eros Djarot received the Lifetime Achievement award at the peak of the 2023 Indonesian Music Awards (AMI) which was held at the JIExpo Convention Center and Theater, North Jakarta, Wednesday, November 8.

Eros Djarot was awarded the award for his dedication and contribution to the development of Indonesian music as a musician and songwriter.

In his winning speech, Eros Djarot called himself a musician and amateur songwriter. He also expressed pride in seeing AMI's development so far.

"I, as a musician and songwriter, can be on stage with extraordinary professionals. I sat with Mbak Titiek Puspa earlier. Seeing such extraordinary progress, to be honest I felt like an underprivileged child," said Eros Djarot.

"I became a inferior because I saw extraordinary greatness. This cannot be separated from the long struggle of my friends at AMI. Thank you. And I can't give more except my love to all of you," he continued.

Asked further about his winning speech, Eros referred to himself as an amateur because he saw great potential from today's young Indonesian musicians.

"Yes, because I feel that I have to be honest in music, I'm not a professional. Look at these young friends are much more professional. And I have to take my hat off. Maybe I should learn a lot from them too," said Eros Djarot.

Furthermore, the figure behind the legendary album Badai Pasti Berlalu (1977) also presented this award for musicians who have worked with him.

"This is an award for my friends too, who worked with me in the past, like Yockie and Chrisye. Yes, I present this trophy to them too," said Eros Djarot.

"Frankly, I'm a musician and songwriter. If I saw earlier young friends, it was amazing, far away, they were much more than me, so I congratulated AMI who had given birth to many musicians who were quite good and reliable," he added.

Apart from Eros Djarot, Lifetime Achievement was also given to H. Ukat S and Adi Nugroho.
