Global Supply Chain Resilience Becomes Topics For G7 Meetings In Japan

JAKARTA - Minister of Trade (Mendag) Zulkifli Hasan will discuss increasing global supply chain resilience as well as relations between the trade sector and sustainability aspects at the G7 State Ministerial Meeting (G7 Trade Ministers' Meeting/G7 TMM) in Japan.

For the first time, Indonesia was invited to the ministerial meeting. According to him, this will bring strategic interests to Indonesia and other developing countries in global trade.

"The meeting of the G7 Ministerial Level will have a strategic meaning in bringing the interests of Indonesia and developing countries into global trade, especially increasing the resilience of global supply chains and relations between the trade sector and sustainability aspects including environmental issues, development, and digitization," said Zulkifli in a statement in Jakarta, Saturday.

During the meeting, the Minister of Trade was scheduled to take part in an outreach session, namely a discussion session between G7 member countries, strategic partner countries, and international organizations, which raised the theme of increasing global supply chain resilience, as well as a working dinner session that focuses on relationships between the trade sector and sustainability aspects.

On the sidelines of the G7 TMM meeting, Zulkifli is also scheduled to attend bilateral meetings with a number of Indonesian strategic trading partner countries, namely Japan and Australia. The entire series of meetings will be held at the Osaka International Convention Center/Grand Cube Osaka, Japan, Saturday.

In addition to meeting with the minister of trading partner countries, Zulkifli will attend a meeting with the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the International Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

"Indonesia is pushing for concrete results at the WTO 13th Ministerial Conference in February 2024 and expects support for Indonesia's access to become a full member of the OECD which can be an accelerator for achieving the vision of Indonesia Gold 2045," said Zulkifli.

The G7 is an international organization consisting of several of the world's largest economies, namely Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Britain, and the United States.
