The Importance Of Supervision So That There Will Be No More Deadly Incidents Of The Geong Banyumas Bridge
JAKARTA - The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, highlighted the unfortunate incident of the breaking of a glass bridge at The Geong tourist destination at the Limpakuwus Pine Forest complex, Banyumas Regency, Central Java, which killed a visitor. He also emphasized the importance of monitoring recreational rides for the safety of the people who come to visit.
"For the incident that occurred on The Geong Banyumas glass bridge, I express my concern and sorrow for the victims. Tourist destinations must pay attention to elements of public safety and security as visitors," said Puan, Thursday, October 26.
As is known, a 15-meter high glass bridge that became a tourist destination in the Limpakawus Pine Forest broke when 11 tourists from Cilacap, Central Java, passed on Wednesday (25/10) yesterday. Of the 11 tourists, 4 people were mired.
Two victims managed to survive by holding on to the bridge, but two others fell. One of the victims who fell died when he was rushed to the hospital.
Puan also hopes that the incident will be a valuable lesson for the manager of tourist attractions, to ensure safety for visitors. Especially for rides that have a high level of risk.
"And I also encourage the Government and relevant stakeholders to carry out strict supervision of tourist destinations and their managers so that all facilities for visitors are in accordance with standards," said Puan.
Based on the police investigation, it is known that The Geong tourist destination has not gone through a feasibility test. With this incident, Puan said that strict supervision of tourist destinations and all rides in it are obligatory things to do.
That is the importance of policy makers providing supervision so that every tourist attraction is guaranteed security. Periodic monitoring is also important to prevent things that we don't want," said the first woman to serve as Chairman of the DPR RI.
Puan supports the presence of many tourist destinations because apart from being a means of entertainment for the community, tourism objects can support regional economic developments which ultimately lead to people's welfare. It's just that he reminded, tourist destinations must meet the standards of feasibility.
"Especially for rides that have risks, the feasibility test should not be ignored. We must not mess with safety and security factors," said Puan.
The former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture added that tourist destinations must be a safe and fun place to visit. Puan also assessed that safety guarantees are needed to maintain public interest in tourism in Indonesia.

"The occurrence of the broken glass bridge in The Geong is a reminder of the importance of security standards in tourist destinations. Prevention measures must always be prioritized," he said.
Puan also said that the manager of tourist attractions must be responsible for this accident. If it is proven that there is negligence in the safety element of visitors, then there must be a form of legal responsibility.
Accidents at tourist attractions have happened repeatedly. This is a big homework for the Government to pay more attention to the importance of monitoring tourist attractions in the country," explained Puan.
"People's safety while traveling is not trivial. And the comfort of every tourist destination is the face of tourism in Indonesia," he continued.
Puan also highlighted the proliferation of tourist destinations in areas that are often present without permission from the Government. Therefore, the Government through the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) is asked to cooperate with the Regional Government to evaluate every existing tourist destination.
"Evaluation must be carried out. This includes periodic examination, careful care, and strict safety testing. So that any shortcomings in the surveillance and safety system must be identified and fixed quickly," said Puan.
Furthermore, Bung Karno's grandson emphasized the importance of the manager of tourist attractions to collaborate with experts who are competent in their fields. That way, according to Puan, the tourist destinations that are managed become excellent tourist attractions.
"Consultations with experts can provide valuable insight and help prevent similar accidents in the future," he appealed.
"So tourist destinations are not enough just to bring beauty or attractive rides. But how tourism objects must also be able to bring comfort to visitors, especially in terms of safety," concluded Puan.
