Babel Enters Rainy Season, Residents Asked To Beware Of Hydrometeorological Disasters
The Belitung Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) appealed to the local community, especially the Province of the Bangka Belitung Islands (Babel) to be aware of hydrometeorological disasters in the midst of the transition of the dry season to the rainy season.
"We urge the public to be aware of hydrometeorological disasters in the midst of the current transitional conditions of the season," said Belitung BPBD Chief Executive Agus Supriadi in Tanjung Pandan, Bangka Belitung Islands Province (Babel), Wednesday, October 25, as reported by Antara.
According to him, the condition of the transition from dry to rainy is currently taking place in the Belitung area.
He explained that this condition is prone to causing hydrometeorological disasters such as strong winds, lightning and floods.
"Currently, the Belitung area is transitioning from dry to rainy, marked by heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and lightning," he said.
He explained that the strong winds occurred on Tuesday, October 24, on Jalan Air Kelubi, Lesung Batang Village, Tanjung Pandan District, which damaged two houses in the area.
In addition to destroying the two houses of the residents of the strong winds also uprooted several large trees in the location.
"So we still urge residents to remain aware of the potential for strong winds in the midst of the current conditions," he said.

Agus said this condition is expected to last until next December, considering that currently Belitung is only entering the early phase of the rainy season.
"We have indeed been aware of this because when it is long dry and then it rains, the potential for strong winds and lightning will definitely be followed," he said.
He hopes that the community can increase preparedness for the potential threat of hydrometeorological disasters in the midst of the current transition of the season.
"Because during the day the weather conditions in Belitung began to rain, marked by the gathering of cumulonimbus clouds which have the potential to cause strong winds," he said.
