Indonesia AirAsia's Strategic Role: Support The Government Encourages Air And Tourism Connectivity From Kertajati International Airport
JAKARTA - Indonesia AirAsia focuses on a positive contribution to the government's plan to make Kertajati International Airport the main gateway for flight connectivity for the Greater Bandung (Cimahi, Sumedang and surrounding areas) and the Ciayumajakuning (Cirebon, Indramayu, Majalengka, and Kuningan) areas.
Through strategic steps, including the complete transfer of airline services from Husein Sastranegara Airport (BDO) to Kertajati International Airport (KJT), as well as the launch of its newest international and domestic routes, AirAsia continues to expand access and spur connectivity to support the development of the tourism sector in the local area to all corners of Indonesia.
President Director of Indonesia AirAsia, Veranita Yosephine Sinaga said, Indonesia AirAsia is proud to be able to take a significant share in the government's plan to advance flight connectivity and support the growth of the Indonesian tourism sector.
"The company sees this as a strategic investment and we are consistent with our commitment to providing the best flight services to facilitate travel and provide added value benefits for the community," he said, in a written statement, Tuesday, October 24.
Being one of the largest airports in Indonesia today, Kertajati International Airport is located in a strategic location in Majalengka Regency, which is supported by the accessibility of the Cisumdawu (Cileunyi - Sumedang - Dawuan) toll road. With world-class facilities and services, this airport also provides various public transportation solutions, including shuttle services around the area.
This effectively at the same time answers the public's need for important factors such as Seamless (speed), Affordability, and Ease (easy), which are taken into account when choosing transportation facilities to travel.
Veranita further explained, since the beginning of operation, AirAsia has placed West Java (starting from the city of Bandung) as one of the destinations that must continue for air travelers in the ASEAN area.
"With the growth of flight services through Kertajati International Airport that we present, we hope that in addition to shortening the distance between Indonesia and ASEAN and providing opportunities for everyone to be able to fly, AirAsia can also contribute to creating more economic opportunities and new jobs for residents and the local community," he said.
The company's concrete support for the development of Kertajati International Airport has started on May 17, 2023. Being the first efficient airline to connect international routes to Kuala Lumpur (KUL) from Kertajati (KJT), AirAsia managed to record an aircraft occupancy rate of 70 percent on its inaugural flight.
"For the inaugural flight, this number is quite large and proves a high positive interest from the community. This is also what further motivates our enthusiasm to further promote flights to and from Kertajati. Continuing the trace of the success of the route to Kuala Lumpur, Indonesia AirAsia has also proudly prepared flights that will connect people to favorite domestic destinations," said Veranita.

"After Kuala Lumpur, we will again be the first airline to serve the Denpasar route from Kertajati International Airport on October 29. This is proof of our commitment to supporting the government in advancing air connectivity from Kertajati. Apart from opening more access to local communities, this route will also be a gateway for tourists arriving via Kertajati International Airport, to have the opportunity to explore the beauty of various other cities in Indonesia. It is our honor to be able to invite loyal customers to be part of this historic milestone," concluded Veronita.
