Egyptian President: Israel's Aggression In Gaza Exceeds The Right To Self-Defense Limit

JAKARTA - Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi on Friday said Israeli bombings of Gaza had exceeded the right to self-defense and called for the peace process between Palestine and Israel to resume.

"We all have to take action to contain developments that may not be regionally controlled," Sisi said during a discussion with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak during her visit to Egypt, according to an Egyptian state media report reported by ANTARA, Saturday, October 21.

Sisi mengatakan dengan adanya warga sipil yang menjadi korban di daerah balap Palestina yang terbangkat tersebut maka kita semua perlu mengambil tindakan agar perangkatan tersebut tidak menyebabkan lebih banyak korban sipil.

The Egyptian president also stressed that aid to Gaza, including medical and humanitarian supplies, would continue.

He expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by US Presidents Joe Biden and England in persuading Israel to allow the opening of the Rafah crossing.

"Coordination and cooperation are needed so that this area does not fall into war," said Sisi.

"This will give Palestinians hope once again to establish a Palestinian state according to the 1967 border with East Jerusalem as its capital," he said.

Speaking to Sunak, Sisi stressed the importance of not allowing the transfer of civilians from Gaza to Sinai, adding that the move could be very dangerous and stop the Palestinian struggle completely.

Israel has bombed Gaza since Hamas' sudden attack on October 7, and has blockaded the entire region, causing Gaza's 2.3 million population to lack food, water, fuel, and medical supplies.

After the meeting in Riyadh, Sunak flew to Cairo to discuss efforts to "prevent widespread violence".

"All leaders must work together to avoid regional escalation and ensure humanitarian assistance reaches civilians in Gaza. Britain is ready to help," he said in a statement.
