Medan District Court Judge Sentenced To 6.5 Years In Prison Owner Of 9 Grams Of Shabu
The panel of judges at the Medan District Court, North Sumatra, sentenced the owner of nine grams of crystal methamphetamine from Medan to 6.5 years in prison.
"To try and sentence the defendant Muhammad Nur alias Nur to 6.5 years in prison, a fine of Rp. 1 billion, subsidiary to six months in prison," said Chief Judge Firza Andriansyah when reading the verdict at the Medan District Court as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, October 3.
He said, from the facts of the trial, the panel of judges believed that the defendant Muhammad Nur violated Article 112 paragraph (2) of the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics.
The essence of the article, namely without rights or against the law has, keeps, controls, or provides narcotics class I, not plants, which weigh more than five grams, namely nine grams.
"The aggravating thing is that the defendant's actions do not support the government's program in eradicating drugs, while the mitigating thing is regretting his actions," said Firza.
After reading the memorandum of demand, the panel of judges gave the Public Prosecutor of the Medan District Attorney, the defendant and the defendant's legal adviser to determine their attitude to accept or appeal the decision.
This decision is lighter than the demands of the Medan Prosecutor's Office, Rocky Sirait, for seven years in prison, a fine of Rp. 800 million, subsidiary to six months in prison.
