Expert: The Attorney General's Office Currently Needs Quality Human Resources

Trisakti University criminal law expert Abdul Fickar Hadjar said the challenges of the Indonesian Attorney General's Office currently require quality human resource talents (HR).

"The Prosecutor's Office needs to continue to improve the quality of human resources (HR). Therefore, the recruitment of prospective prosecutors needs to be followed by quality talents, both scientific and integrity," he said in a written statement, quoted from Antara, Saturday, September 30.

Currently, said Abdul, the level of public trust in the Prosecutor's Office is at the highest level in history. Therefore, in the midst of increasingly reliable performance, the Prosecutor's Office has a vital role in the legal system in Indonesia. In addition to handling criminal and civil cases, prosecutors play a strategic role in representing the government as state lawyers.

"In the digital era, prosecutors must deal with criminal acts that occur in cyberspace, aka cyber crime. In addition, prosecutors also face increasingly sophisticated crimes in the financial sector," he said.

According to him, mastery of legal science is certainly an absolute requirement for prospective prosecutors. However, along with the development of increasingly sophisticated criminal acts in this digital era, mastery of expertise or science outside of legal science is also needed as a support.

In addition to scientific skills, said Abdul, prospective prosecutors also need to have a maintained mental attitude and discipline, because integrity and moral quality are absolute needs because the prosecutor's duties and authorities affect the sense of justice that lives in society.

"The essence of the prosecutor's strength is honesty and mastery of legal knowledge. It takes a basic attitude of trust to avoid misuse of power that is very vulnerable," he said.

Separately, advocate and Secretary General of the Alumni Family of the Faculty of Law, Gadjah Mada University (KAHGAMA) Mandela Sinaga, stated that he agreed that Indonesia needed superior prosecutors who would become the backbone of law enforcement in Indonesia.

According to him, the Prosecutor's Office plays an important role in enforcing the rule of law in Indonesia, providing protection for the public interest, and upholding human rights.

In addition to playing a role in enforcing criminal law, he said, the Prosecutor's Office was also proven to play an important role in civil law and state administration, namely representing the government in civil cases and state administration as state attorneys.

The Attorney General's Office of the Republic of Indonesia is currently holding a selection of candidates for the state civil apparatus (CASN). In this recruitment, the Prosecutor's Office opened 7,846 formations, of which 2,000 formations were aimed at the position of prosecutors. The CASN registration of the Prosecutor's Office has been open from September 20, 2023 to October 9, 2023.
