Central Mamuju Residents Killed By Crocodiles While Picking The Cage In The River

MAMUJU - A resident named I Wayan Jana (45) in Salupangkang Village, Topoyo District, Central Mamuju, West Sulawesi, died after being attacked by a crocodile, last Saturday. At that time, he was picking the kale.

The victim was found dead with lacerations to his knees until he almost broke. The victim was dragged by a crocodile into the water before being found by residents.

Residents tried to remove the victim from the crocodile's bite by throwing and hitting the crocodile using bamboo. After a few minutes, the victim's body was successfully evacuated from the river to the mainland.

The unfortunate incident occurred when the victim went to look for a kale in the river in the oil palm plantation area which is about 3 kilometers from his house.

The victim went looking for a kale around 14.00 WITA. At around 16.00 WITA, a resident saw the victim's boots floating in the water while passing at the scene.

In addition to finding the victim's boots, residents also saw the victim's motorbike parked, so residents suspected that the victim was attacked by a crocodile.

After a search was carried out for several minutes, the victim's body was found to be dragged by a crocodile to the surface of the water.

Personnel from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Central Mamuju Regency, Reski Ilham, said that a resident was attacked by a crocodile in Salupangkang Village.

"It is true that natural disasters have occurred with conditions that endanger humans, the victim was attacked by a crocodile, in Salupangkang Village, Topoyo District, Mamuju Regency," said Reski, Sunday, September 24.

According to him, the victim was successfully evacuated while local residents were rescuing him for 30 minutes because when he was found the victim was dragged into the water.

"The victim was successfully evacuated by the local community at 17.10 WITA and the victim has now been taken to the funeral home," he said.

He explained that residents who were annoyed with the incident then looked for and caught the crocodile, residents expressed their frustration by killing the crocodile.
