M 5.3 Earthquake Shakes Northwest North Nias

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said that an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 occurred in the northwest region of North Nias, North Sumatra on Sunday at 08.27 WIB.

According to the BMKG broadcast, the epicenter of the earthquake was in the sea at a depth of 38 km at coordinates 1.83 North Latitude and 96.81 East Longitude.

BMKG stated that the earthquake did not have the potential to cause a tsunami.

However, residents are advised to be careful considering that aftershocks may occur.
