BANDA ACEH - The public prosecutor of the Aceh Tengah District Prosecutor's Office sued the former treasurer of the Central Aceh Regency Sharia Islamic Service with the initials AY (34) who was accused of corruption in the incentive funds for reciting teachers with a sentence of 3.5 years in prison.
Head of the Special Crimes Section, Zainul Arifin, said that apart from imprisonment, the defendant AY was also required to pay compensation of Rp398 million.
"The demand was read out by the public prosecutor in a virtual court at the Banda Aceh Corruption Court," said Zainul Arifin, quoted by Antara, Friday, February 5.
The defendant, said Zainul Arifin, was guilty of violating Article 3 in conjunction with Article 18 paragraph (1) letter a, paragraph (2), paragraph (3) of RI Law Number 31 Year 1999 which was amended into Law Number 20 Year 2001 concerning Eradication of Corruption Crime.
Zainul Arifin said the defendant AY was also required to pay a fine of Rp. 50 million. If they do not pay, the defendant must serve a sentence or a subsidiary of four months in prison
In the demands of the public prosecutor (JPU), said Zainul Arifin, if the defendant is unable to pay compensation of Rp398 million, then his property will be confiscated to cover state losses.
Zainul Arifin said the prosecutor had confiscated the defendant's assets in the form of two plots of land and a house. The assets will be sold to cover state losses if the defendant does not pay compensation.
"The sale of land and houses to cover losses of state money is of course based on a court ruling and the case has permanent legal force," said Zainul Arifin.
Defendant AY was charged with a criminal act of corruption in the incentive fund for TPA teachers in Central Aceh District for the second semester of the 2019 Fiscal Year totaling Rp398 million.
"The funds were supposed to pay 1,259 teachers of the Koran Koran educational park in Central Aceh Regency. But the defendant is suspected of using it for his personal gain," said Zainul Arifin.
