eaked News Regarding The Meeting Between Indonesia And Tesla Next Week: The Government Declines If They Are Only Supply Raw Materials

JAKARTA - The government, through the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Marves), stated that it had officially accepted the cooperation proposal from electric car manufacturer Tesla on Thursday, February 4, regarding the lithium battery program and downstream mining programs.

Deputy for Investment Coordination of the Coordinating Ministry for Investment (Marves), Septian Hario Seto, said that the proposal from the corporation owned by Elon Musk is now being studied further to find important points that can be synergized with the government. Even so, he was reluctant to reveal further details of the cooperation to be built.

"However, the contents cannot be disclosed because they are also very strict on their side", he said in a webinar on Friday, February 5.

He added, in general, the cooperation with Tesla is about developing the Energy Storage System (ESS) field. To note, ESS is a large energy storage system.

Indonesia as an archipelagic country has great potential for the development of renewable energy so that this cooperation is also expected to provide maximum benefits.

Seto also revealed that this collaboration would provide a great opportunity for Indonesia to become a player in the electronic vehicle and lithium battery industry.

"We as the nation's children can learn a lot from here because one of what we are asking for is technology transfer", he said.

In addition, he also ensured that the cooperation that was built was aimed at maximizing all the potential that Indonesia had and not only as a supplier of raw materials.

"If they only take raw materials, we are not interested. We cannot disclose the other details, but this is beyond just taking raw materials”, he said.

The large potential of resources and the opening of existing opportunities must be maximally utilized to develop Indonesia.

“I think this is a momentum to be able to position Indonesia in a significant global value chain. We can be the main players there, invite the right partners for downstream and technology so that we can develop as well", he concluded.
