Vice Mayor: Surabaya GBT Circuit Can Reduce Illegal Motorcycle Racing
SURABAYA - Deputy Mayor (Wawali) of Surabaya City Armuji stated that the existence of a circuit in Gelora Bung Tomo (GBT) Kota Pahlawan, East Java (East Java), is able to reduce the habits of young people who like illegal motorcycle racing on the streets.
"If it is serious then we are ready to facilitate. We have motorcycle racing circuit facilities at the GBT Complex. But the spirit is to hone the scarcity and sport," said Armuji in Surabaya as reported by ANTARA, Monday, September 18.
Previously, joint officers from the Surabaya Police Traffic Unit, TNI, and volunteers, secured 110 illegal racing motorbikes in Surabaya on Sunday (17/9) in the morning. The drivers involved in illegal racing were also taken to the Surabaya Police Station for examination.
The Vice Mayor appreciated the police for being able to create a safe situation in the city of Surabaya by holding Operation Zebra Semeru 2023.
"For the Surabaya youth, coaching will be given, that the practice of illegal racing has no benefits at all," said Cak Ji, Armuji's nickname.
Cak Ji also regrets that illegal racing activities are still happening in Surabaya. In fact, he continued, the risk of illegal motorcycle racing is the safety of the life of motorists and users of other roads.

According to him, motorcycle racing activities are good. However, he said, his spirit must be changed from the original as an activity that caused crowds and even chaos on the streets, to become the spirit of sports.
"In addition, I also urge Surabaya teenagers to be able to channel their talents through safe activities," he said.
Therefore, Cak Ji invites young people in Surabaya who have a hobby of speeding or racing wild motorbikes on the streets to join and the practice that is usually held at the GBT Circuit.
Cak Ji said he was happy if the circuit could be used as well as possible by young people. Moreover, the purpose of the circuit construction is indeed to reduce the speed on the streets.
