Alex Jankewitz Becomes A Racial Victim On Medsos After Manchester United Beat Southampton 9-0

JAKARTA - Southampton announced on Thursday that they were asking the police for help to deal with the racial abuse case experienced by young talent Alex Jankewitz on social media after the 0-9 defeat against Manchester United.

The 19-year-old player received a red card when the match was not even two minutes old at Old Trafford, Tuesday local time (Wednesday WIB), as if starting a disaster for Southampton which ultimately lost 0-9 against MU.

"Harassment of any kind will not be tolerated at Southampton," said a statement on Southampton's official website as quoted by Antara, Thursday.

"Our club is proud of our inclusive behavior, and if there are supporters who stick to such disgusting and outdated standards we will not accept them as supporters of Southampton, nor as any club in world football."

"This club will continue to fight every day to remove such people from the sport and our community all," the statement read.

Southampton said it had forwarded all evidence of racial abuse messages against Jankewitz they found to the Hampshire Police in the hope that the guilty parties would be completely banned from the football community.

In the English Premier League racial abuse is often experienced by a number of players whenever the person concerned is considered to be the culprit for his club's mistakes.

English Premier League clubs, until now, are still kneeling before football at the start of each match as a form of fighting racial discrimination, which was initially triggered when responding to racial violence that led to the police murder of black George Floyd in May 2020.
