2 Online Betting Bookies in Karawang Targeting Mothers and the Unemployed

KARAWANG - Karawang Police announced the arrest of two online lottery bookies targeting mothers and the unemployed in the Karawang regency, West Java.

"The two online bookies arrested have the initials SN and AT. Both are residents of Jayakerta Village, Jayakerta District, Karawang," said Kasatreskrim Karawang Police AKP Arief Bastomy when releasing the case at the Karawang Police Headquarters, quoted from Antara, Thursday, August 31.

He said, in carrying out the action the perpetrator created an online site. The manufacturing process is done by self-taught learning via the internet.

Then the two actors recruited consumers to place lottery numbers on the perpetrator's site at various rates.

It was stated that the modus operandi of the perpetrators was to practice online gambling by opening, accepting, offering and inviting the public to place numbers on the perpetrator's online gambling sites. The practice of online gambling was revealed after the police received reports from the public.

The officers then proceeded to investigate. It turned out to be true, at the location, namely in Krajan Hamlet, Jayakerta Village, Karawang, online gambling practices were found.

"So the perpetrator was arrested on August 19, while he was practicing gambling," he said.

The evidence seized from the arrest included a number of cellphones, cash, online gambling site accounts and Dana applications.

According to the description of the perpetrators, in carrying out their actions they targeted mothers and the unemployed.

"So the perpetrators have been carrying out this online gambling practice for the past two months, targeting housewives and the unemployed," he said.

Kasatreskrim said, in a day each perpetrator received a partner of around Rp. 30-50 thousand. Meanwhile, in a month, each perpetrator gets IDR 900 thousand to IDR 1.5 million.

To be held accountable for his actions, the perpetrator is now being held at the Karawang Police Headquarters detention center. The perpetrator is threatened with Article 303 of the Criminal Code with a sentence of nine years in prison.
