IPB Student Burns During Practice In Lab, Campus Conducts Investigation
BOGOR - After the laboratory accident caught fire which resulted in the death of one student, IPB University immediately followed up with several handlings.
The IPB Chancellor, Arif Satria, coordinated to determine steps by forming three teams.
The team was formed to deal with these problems as well as to anticipate ensuring the safety of work in laboratories and other matters related to campus life.
"The Investigative Team will cooperate with the police to explore the chronology of the details of the incident, including checking standard procedures (SOPs) and other things that need to be known," he said in an official statement, Monday, August 21, 2023.
Another team, namely the Laboratory Evaluation Team. This evaluation team will check the tools and facilities of all laboratories in IPB, especially laboratory tools that are at high risk when used.
Third, the Work Safety Team on campus, to ensure work safety, both in academic activities, community service, and in terms of campus life in general, including traffic order and safety.
"Most of these teams come from the Risk Management Office (KMR) which will evaluate based on guidelines and instructions for implementing the laboratory management system that has been owned," he said.
The three teams will be coordinated by the Institutional Secretary, Prof. Agus Purwito.
Previously, a student experienced a fire incident in the laboratory while analyzing the fat of feed materials using the soxlet method, Friday, August 18.
The accident led to his life which could not be saved. The victim died after receiving intensive care at the hospital.
