2 Regions In Maybrat, Southwest Papua, Prone To Conflict Ahead Of The 2024 General Election, Police Increase Security
JAKARTA - The police will increase security in two areas of Maybrat Regency, Southwest Papua Province, which are considered prone to conflict ahead of the 2024 General Election.
Southwest Papua Police Chief Inspector General Daniel Tahi Monang Silitonga said the two areas, namely East Aifat and Far East Aifat.
"We are wary of these two areas because the situation and conditions there are not conducive, so we continue to improve security in the area," he said in Sorong, Southwest Papua, Friday, August 11, which was confiscated by Antara.
The Kapolda said that currently the overall security conditions in Maybrat Regency are conducive. He added that the community has also stated a commitment to secure the 2024 General Election.
Even so, said Daniel, increased security ahead of the election will still be prioritized by deploying troops to the area, especially in two areas that are considered vulnerable to potential conflict.
"Don't let us be careless, indeed overall it is safe and conducive, but we also prioritize early anticipation and prioritize and tighten security later," said the Kapolda.

The security pattern that will be implemented, said the Kapolda, will place member personnel at each polling station (TPS) in each district and village. In addition to personnel, it will also involve community leaders who are deemed worthy to jointly maintain security in each polling station.
"The implementation of this security pattern is because we see that the potential that interferes with security conditions always comes from the TPS to coincide with the election," explained the Kapolda.
Regarding the security of the 2024 General Election, Daniel emphasized to every personnel who will be tasked with not giving space to people who try to create conditions contrary to security and public order (kamtibmas).
"We will take firm action against individuals who are trying to damage the condition of the security and social order in the 2024 election," said the Kapolda.
