Jokowi Calls Indonesia's Jump To Become An Advanced Country Determined By The Young Generation
JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said the younger generation will greatly determine Indonesia's position in the next 13 years, which is an important time to determine whether the success of the country becomes a developed country or not.
"Indonesia can be the top five countries with the highest GDP (Gross Domestic Product) in the world, and it is in the hands of all of you," President Jokowi said at the LPDP Fest in Jakarta, Thursday night.
"I repeat. It is in the hands of the younger generation, in the hands of all of you," he said.
Jokowi said various international economic institutions such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank, and OECD conveyed to him that Indonesia has the opportunity to become one of the five countries with the highest Gross Domestic Product in the world.
According to him, in the next 13 years, it will be a time to determine whether Indonesia can jump into a developed country or not.
Jokowi also warned that many countries in the world, since the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, have been in a stagnant position as developing countries. This happens because these countries cannot take advantage of the potential to jump into developed countries.

"In these 13 years, we are less than 2038 given that opportunity. To be able to become a developed country. Whether we can or not, it depends on ourselves, but in my opinion the leadership in 2024, in 2029, and in 2034 will be very decisive," he said.
Therefore, Jokowi invites the younger generation to be careful in choosing leaders in the 2024 General Election. However, he also emphasized that sovereignty is entirely in the hands of the people.
"National leadership is very important for us to be able to look forward or not to advance. Be careful in 2024 in choosing a leader. But sovereignty is in the hands of the people," said Jokowi.
