Hyundai And Kia's Record At The United States Electric Vehicle Market In July
Hyundai Motor Co., an automotive company from South Korea, managed to record positive sales results for its vehicles on the United States (US) market during July.
In collaboration with its subsidiary, Kia Corp., the two companies reported double-digit sales growth in Uncle Sam's country. This development was mainly driven by increasing demand for electric vehicles in the country.
Reporting from Yonhap, Wednesday, August 2, the total sales of these two companies reached 143,787 units in July, an increase of 12.1 percent compared to the previous year in the US.
Each company reached a very positive sales figure. Hyundai managed to sell as many as 72,857 units, including 6,330 vehicles from its premium brand, namely Genesis. This shows an increase of 10.7 percent from the same period last year.
Meanwhile, Kia managed to record sales of 70,930 vehicles, an increase of 14 percent compared to the previous year. Their retail sales reached 66,485 units, up 13 percent from last year.
Overall, sales of environmentally friendly vehicles, including electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), reached 26,498 units, or about 18.4 percent of total sales volume.
Furthermore, environmentally friendly vehicles from Hyundai reached 77.7 percent of their total sales, which was around 15,392 units. Kia also contributed 11,106 units of environmentally friendly vehicles, reaching about 71.9 percent of their total sales.
In more specific detail, several models experienced a significant increase in sales. The hybrid Hyundai Santa Fe grew by 117.3 percent compared to the previous year. Other models such as the Ioniq 5 increased by 109 percent, and the PHEVwas increased by 44 percent.
Not to forget the luxury Genesis brand, where models such as GV70 and GV80 using electricity increased sales by 21.7 percent compared to the same period last year.
