Monthly Inflation In July 2023 Increases Triggered By Children's School Entrance Fees

JAKARTA The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) informed that monthly inflation (month to month/mtm) in July 2023 was 0.21 percent.

Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics, BPS Pudji Ismartini, said the level increased from June 2023 which was recorded at 0.14 percent mtm.

"Inflation in the month to month is higher in July 2023 compared to June 2023. A significant education group contributed inflation last month," he said during a press conference in Jakarta, Tuesday, August 1.

According to Pudji, the education group experienced inflation of 0.66 percent mtm in July. It was stated that education inflation tends to occur on the sidelines of July to September 2023

"This coincides with the start of the new school year," he said.

Meanwhile, the inflation of education is supported by many school fees, junior high school fees, and high school fees.

"Based on historical data, education groups still have the potential to contribute to inflation in the next two months," said Pudji.

In addition to education, inflation month to month is also contributed by food, beverages and tobacco, as well as the transportation sector.

"The highest monthly inflation was in Manokwari at 1.43 percent mtm and the lowest occurred in Tual City at 0.50 percent," he said.
