Vice President Ma'ruf Asks Erick Thohir To Optimally Manage The Waqf Money Movement, Including For Investments

JAKARTA - Vice President (Wapres) Ma'ruf Amin claimed to have asked the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir to mobilize all BUMNs to fully commit to the productive waqf movement.

"BUMN Minister Erick Thohir has reported that SOEs fully support the National Movement for Wakaf Uang which was launched a few days ago", said Vice President Ma'ruf in an electronic message reported by Antara, Friday, January 29.

The national waqf program is expected to be well managed by the government, including through optimal investment. The goal, said Vice President Ma'ruf, is to support broader social activities.

"In the future projection, the management of Wakaf Uang is expected to be able to mobilize the waqf money maximally, optimal investment and its benefits to support wider social activities", he explained.

The Vice President believes that the restructuring of waqf activities, from land and building waqf to cash waqf can be beneficial as expected by the government if the management is professional and the implementation goes well.

"I believe that the transformation of cash waqf will run according to the expected goals if it can be implemented properly. Management of national cash waqf will contribute significantly to economic development and increase the welfare of society", he explained.

Previously, Erick Thohir said that his party would support the productive waqf program with the potential of SOEs worth IDR 80 billion.

"Currently, we are committed to a value of IDR 80 billion. God willing, we will continue to enlarge and develop it, because this is part of the solution for economic resilience which is currently being disrupted by COVID-19", said Erick after meeting the Vice President in Jakarta, Thursday, January 28 yesterday.
