Semifinals Of Idaman Served In The 2023 Wimbledon Men's Sector: Daniil Medvedev Meets Carlos Alcaraz, Who Survives?
JAKARTA - The men's sector of Wimbledon 2023 will present an interesting spectacle in the semifinals. The ideal party is presented when Daniil Medvedev is confirmed to meet Carlos Alcaraz.
Medvedev got up to beat non-seeded Christopher Eubanks with a score of 6-4, 1-6, 4-6, 7-6 (7/4), 6-1. This is the first semifinal of the Russian tennis player at Wimbledon.
He will face Alcaraz who beat Holger Rune. The top seed and defending US Open champion won through straight set 7-6 (7/3), 6-4, 6-4
Daniil Medvedev admits to being aware of Carlos Alcaraz's "one brutal blow" which could kill his hopes of defeating the world's top player in their Wimbledon semifinals.
"If you give him an easy chance, you could get into trouble," Medvedev said, as broadcast by AFP and quoted via Antara.
"There's a big chance you'll win, say, Novak or Rafa (Nadal) you feel like you have a chance to do this hit."
"But with Carlos, you won't get it. One punch is sometimes brutal," he continued.
Medvedev beat Alcaraz at Wimbledon in the second half of 2021, when the Spaniard was 18 years old.
The Russian also had experience defeating Novak Djokovic at Grand Slam, when he won in the final of the US Open 2021.
Medvedev hopes that his greater experience will prove important in the semifinal match which will take place on Friday, July 14, local time.
"I have competed against many great players in my career. I managed to win many times. So I will try to do my best. If I show my best, I will have a chance," Medvedev said.
Meanwhile, Alcaraz admitted that he was very happy with his achievements in breaking into the semifinals of Wimbledon 2023.
"To be honest, this is extraordinary for me. It's been a dream since I started playing tennis," said Alcaraz.
"I played at a very good level. I didn't expect to be able to play this good on a field like this," he continued.
