2 Reasons Airlangga Is A Strong Candidate For The 2024 Vice Presidential Candidate, The Head Of Political Parties And Economic Performance
JAKARTA - The Indonesian Survey Circle (LSI) Denny JA found two reasons why the name of the General Chairperson of the Golkar Party DPP Airlangga Hartarto became a strong candidate to be seen as a candidate for vice president in 2024.
LSI researcher, Hanggoro Doso Pamungkas said, there were two reasons that made Airlangga a strong candidate for the 2024 vice presidential candidate.
First, Airlangga is the general chairman of political parties. The position of the chairman of the political party is considered to be able to support the electability of presidential candidates through their political machines. In fact, the party led by Airlangga is one of the largest parties in Indonesia, namely Golkar.
Second, Airlangga is also proven to have qualified performance in the economic sector. According to Hanggoro, this has been proven by Airlangga after being appointed by President Jokowi to accommodate the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs in resolving the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
He considered that Airlangga was also successful in maintaining several sectors of the Indonesian economy, one of which was carrying out stability development in the midst of the global economic crisis.
"In addition to owning a party, Airlangga Hartarto is the Coordinating Minister for Economics, very competent about economic issues," said Hanggoro, quoted Wednesday, July 12.
He added that apart from Airlangga's name, another strong candidate for vice president is the subordinate of Coordinating Minister Airlangga Hartarto, Erick Thohir. He currently serves as Minister of SOEs. Hanggoro said Erick was also competent in economic issues.

"Not only Airlangga, but Erick Thohir is also considered quite competent because the person concerned is a businessman and serves as a minister (Minister of BUMN) who is considered quite experienced in economic issues," he said.
LSI Denny JA conducted a face-to-face interview using a questionnaire to 1,200 respondents throughout Indonesia.
