Mahfud MD Reveals New Threats In The Development Of Maritime Technology
Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menkopolhukam) Mahfud MD revealed that there are threats in maritime security and safety related to technological developments.Mahfud is aware of this threat through a report published by the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) on the sea on March 14, 2023."In addition to the threat of territorial waters and jurisdictions, what needs attention is maritime security and safety in relation to technological developments as reported by the Secretary General of the United Nations regarding the sea three months ago," Mahfud said at a Workshop on Maritime Security at the Borobudur Hotel, Jakarta, Antara, Wednesday, July 5.According to him, the development of maritime technology will also facilitate the occurrence of crime. This condition is a consideration for carrying out the transformation of national marine security.Furthermore, Indonesia Gold's 2045 vision in the national long-term development plan (RPJPN) is one of the development in the marine sector. Its success will be greatly supported by marine security factors."The dynamics of a axis spin, Indonesia is expected to be able to take a bigger role in responding to the evolving geopolitical situation," he said.For this reason, maritime security is a strategic issue that must be a concern of the government. Meanwhile, the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has given directions to Ministries/Institutions (K/L) that have the authority at sea to have the same understanding.Then, in the field of security and control, it is also expected to have an understanding of marine security. Mahfud assessed that the interests of the state in handling security are to maintain sovereignty and territorial territory in governance, so it must be coordinated properly.As for the authorities possessed by various Ministries / Agencies with limited resources currently available, the implementation of security, safety and law enforcement at sea must be carried out in a synergy and well-coordinated manner.This has also been regulated in Government Regulation Number 13 of 2022 concerning the Implementation of Security, Safety and Law Enforcement in the Indonesian Waters Region and the Indonesian Jurisdiction Region.
Mahfud said that PP No. 13 of 2022 in the near future its substance will be strengthened in the draft revision of the amendment to the law on marine affairs initiated by the DPR RI."And now it has arrived in the hands of the government to immediately respond to joint discussion efforts in the not too distant future," he said.
