Coordinating Minister For Political, Legal And Security Affairs For Billions Of Extortion Cases At The KPK Detention Center Is Completely Investigated
BALIKPAPAN - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD asked the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to follow up on allegations of illegal levies (extortion) at the detention center he manages. According to data held by the KPK Supervisory Board, the extortion reached Rp. 4 billion.
"This must be opened to the public and after that it must be followed up legally because extortion is a criminal act," Mahfud MD explained as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, June 20.
Mahfud admitted that he did not know the details of the billion extortion case at the KPK detention center. According to him, if the extortion involves large enough funds, it can be called or categorized as a criminal act of bribery.
"I don't know yet whether extortion or bribery. In corruption there are seven kinds of actions, namely starting from mark up (raising prices), mark down (lowing prices), document forgery, extortion and so on. The lightest is usually extortion," he explained.

Mahfud emphasized that illegal levies were corruption because of the unlawful act of enriching oneself. In the legal snares, extortion and corruption use the same indictment.
"Between extortion and corruption, the article on the indictment is the same, it is only usually light and usually resolved administratively if it is only small," he explained.
