Xi Jinping Wishes Healthy And Stable China-US Relations
JAKARTA - Chinese President Xi Jinping said that Beijing always hopes to see healthy and stable relations between China and the United States, and build interactions that promote the principle of mutual respect.
Xi made this statement while hosting United States Secretary of State Anthony Blinken in Beijing, Monday (19/6).
Blinken becomes the first US official to visit China since President Joe Biden took office in January 2021.
"The United States must respect China and must not injure China's legitimate rights and interests," Xi said, according to a statement by the Chinese Foreign Ministry reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, June 20.
Xi also emphasized that no one should try to coerce the other side with their own will, let alone "usurp the other side's legal rights on the basis of development".
He called on the US side to adopt a rational and pragmatic attitude, and work with China in the same direction.
President Xi said the two sides must remain committed to the mutual understanding he and President Joe Biden agreed on in Bali in November last year, and translate this commitment into concrete actions to stabilize and improve China-US relations.
Meanwhile, Blinken said the United States and China have an obligation to manage relations responsibly in the interests of the United States, China and the world.
