Yetide Badaki Calls American God Helping Him Comfortable Appearing As Bisexual

JAKARTA - American Gods actress Yetide Badaki revealed how her role on the show helped her feel comfortable enough to appear bisexual.

This Nigerian-born American woman stars as Bilquis, the legendary Queen of Sheba and ancient goddess of love, in the fantasy series by Neil Gaiman.

Interviewed by Digital Spy ahead of the third installment, Badaki talked about how the "empowering" role helped him find the freedom to be open about his sexuality.

"I feel like this show has always wanted to have this conversation (about its sexuality), and was always willing to open it up," he said. “I have personally experienced how such open discourse allows personal freedom.

"I admitted to being bisexual last year. I would like to say many thanks for this event, and for the discussions they had. "

When he approaches the role, continued Badaki, he finds a sense of symbiosis with his character and often asks: "What will Bilquis do?" The discussions she had as she explored these questions helped her to "own" her sexuality.

“I really enjoy being able to talk about sexual empowerment and sex positivity, because I think a lot of things happen in silence, in the dark. That's where everything cracks up, "he mused.
