Paiton Santri Hit-and-Run Actor In China Gives Rp1.8 Billion In Compensation, Parents: Build A Musala
JAKARTA - The hit-and-run perpetrator in Xianyang City, Shaanxi Province, China who killed Muhammad Rendra Sampurna Wijayadi, has provided compensation to the victim's family worth US $ 132,928 or around Rp1.86 billion.
The compensation is transferred directly to the account of the victim's parents in Paiton, Probolinggo Regency, East Java without any deductions.
The Education and Cultural Attache of the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing, Yaya Sutarya, said that apart from compensation from the perpetrator, the victim's family will still get life insurance worth around Rp 200 million and the cost of returning tuition fees.
This insurance is provided by the Shaanxi Polytechnic Institute, Xianyang, where these students studied S1 Electronic Engineering.
"If the insurance has been disbursed, we will contact you again for the delivery," said Yaya when calling Hatim, the victim's father, who lives in Paiton, reported by Antara, Saturday, January 23.
Previously, the Atdikbud and the Protocol and Consular staff of the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing met with the perpetrator's family, the police, the campus, and other Indonesian students in the city.
On behalf of the victim's family, Yaya has received an apology from the perpetrator's parents.
"We have met these parties at the Xianyang Police. We have received our apologies, but we still fully hand over the ongoing legal process," he said accompanying the Coordinator of Protocol and Consular Functions of the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing, Victor Harjono.
In addition to meeting with the parties, Yaya also visited a mosque administrator in Xianyang who had provided land for Rendra's burial on January 7.
Meanwhile, Hatim in a telephone conversation with Atdikbud said that he would use part of the compensation money to build a prayer room in the neighborhood around PP Mambaul Ulum, Paiton.
This musala is where Rendra studied religion before continuing his undergraduate education in the western region of China.
"I have discussed with my wife, the plan is to make a prayer room at Rendra's hut," said Hatim, who was on the phone accompanied by the victim's mother, Ismaimunah.
Rendra died at the Xianyang City hospital on January 5, 2021 after being hit by a four-wheeled vehicle that was driving uncontrollably on December 30, 2020 in the morning.
Meanwhile, Faiq Iqbal Ainun, the same victim from Paiton and the same campus in Xianyang, suffered minor injuries in an accident that occurred around their campus.
The perpetrator ran away before finally surrendering himself to the police on January 1. It is the first time a foreign citizen's death in Xianyang City has been reported.
Due to the complexity of the process of sending the bodies from Xianyang to Paiton in the midst of the pandemic, the family finally let the victim be buried in an Islamic way in Xianyang.
The mosque administrator in Xianyang was willing to provide his burial ground because he also recognized the victim who was diligent in worshiping at the mosque.
