KY Chair Amzulian Rifai Focuses On Supervision To Investigation Of Complaints Against Judges
JAKARTA - Chairman of the Judicial Commission (KY) for the Second Half of the July 2023-December 2025 period, Amzulian Rifai, said that internal strengthening would be his first step in leading the country's institution.
"So, in my opinion, the first step (is) internal," said Amzulian after being elected as KY Chair at the KY Leadership Election Meeting at the KY building Auditorium, Jakarta, as reported by ANTARA, Monday, June 5.
As an external supervisory agency, according to Amzulian, KY needs to strengthen the internal institutions in order to gain public trust.
"For me, in principle, the Judicial Commission has external supervision; it is impossible for an external supervisory agency to be trusted by the public if it is not internally strong. So, I always say, strengthen it internally first," he explained.
He explained that the internal strengthening in question is the performance of KY in supervising and maintaining the behavior of judges, such as investigations, selection of judges, and handling community reports.
In addition, working according to standard operating procedures (SOPs) will be a breakthrough during his leadership.
"This means that we are working with the existing SOP, it is a breakthrough. For example, how the community reports to KY that it will not be until the third anniversary, the fourth birthday, especially until the 17th Anniversary (17th year) for example," he said.
In internal strengthening, Amzulian said that he would also carry out external strengthening. According to him, KY cannot be separated from the role of external parties, such as media and non-governmental institutions.
"God willing, I will also focus not only on focusing, but also in addition to internal strengthening, trying to open up externally. This is sometimes easier to say than to implement, but the image of the job, that determination is with me," he said.
