Annual Inflation Achieves 4 Percent In May, The Biggest Contributor Of Transportation
JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) noted that annual inflation in May 2023 reached 4.00 percent (year-on-year/yoy) in May 2023 with a Consumer Price Index (IHK) of 114.84.
"The annual inflation rate or yoy in May 2023 is 4.00 percent or there will be an increase in the IHK from 110.42 in May 2022 to 114.84 in May 2023," said BPS Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics Pudji Ismartini quoting Antara, Monday, June 5.
With this achievement, annual inflation has consistently decreased over the past three months, which was 4.97 percent in March, 4.33 percent in April, and 4.00 percent in May.
The largest annual inflation contributor in May 2023 was the transportation group that recorded inflation at 10.62 percent. The group contributed 1.29 percent to general inflation.
Then, the next largest contributor to inflation is the food, beverage and tobacco group which recorded inflation of 4.27 percent with a contribution of 1.13 percent. Then, housing, water, electricity and household fuel groups with inflation of 2.48 percent and a share of 0.48 percent.
The groups that experienced deflation in the annual inflation of May 2023 were information, communication, and financial services which were recorded at 0.27 percent with a share of 0.01 percent.
When viewed from commodity groups, the largest contributor to annual inflation in May 2023 was gasoline with a share of 0.91 percent, rice 0.38 percent, filtered kretek cigarettes 0.23 percent, house contracts 0.13 percent, and household fuel 0.13 percent.

Meanwhile, when viewed from the region, all cities in Indonesia experienced annual inflation in May 2023. The cities experiencing the highest inflation were Kotabaru and Timika, each of which was 6.04 percent.
The commodities that contribute to inflation in Kotabaru are rice, air transportation rates, gasoline, filter kretek cigarettes, household fuel, chicken eggs, and kretek cigarettes.
Meanwhile, commodities contributing to inflation in Timika are rice, fresh fish, cayenne pepper, gasoline, filter kretek cigarettes, kretek cigarettes, and white cigarettes.
The city with the lowest inflation is Pangkal Pinang which was recorded at 1.93 percent.
