FK Unila Collaborates With Sido Muncul To Develop Herbal Plant Potential As Medicine

JAKARTA - The Faculty of Medicine (FK) of the University of Lampung (Unila) together with PT Industri Jamu and Pharmacy Sido Muncul Tbk (SIDO) collaborated with health research, on Saturday, May 27. This collaboration aims to develop the potential of herbal plants as natural medicines that are beneficial to public health.

The signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was carried out by the Deputy Chancellor for Planning, Cooperation, and ICT Unila Dr. Ayi Ahadiat, SE, MBA, and the Director of PT Industri Jamu and Pharmacy Sido Muncul Tbk Irwan Hidayat. The signing ceremony took place at the Student Center Building of the Faculty of Economics Unila.

Irwan Hidayat said this collaboration is a form of Sido Muncul's support for research conducted by FK Unila, especially related to herbal plants such as stevia, turmeric, and others.

"We hope this collaboration can produce innovations that are beneficial to public health and improve the quality of life of the nation," said Irwan, quoted from the Unila website, Monday, May 29.

Dr. Ayi Ahadiat welcomed this collaboration and appreciated Sido Muncul's commitment to supporting the development of science and technology in the health sector.

Unila, he said, has many researchers who are competent and experienced in exploring the natural wealth of Lampung Province, especially herbal plants that have great potential as natural medicines.

"Unila continues to be committed to supporting and conducting research that explores the potential of natural wealth in Lampung Province, both research in the health sector and other relevant fields," he said.

As a series of this collaboration, FK Unila and Sido Muncul also held a national hybrid seminar with the theme Utilizing Herbal Medicine Towards Healthy Indonesia' which coincided with National Herbalism Day. This seminar was attended by hundreds of participants both offline and online.

The source of the first session included Apt. Mohamad Kashuri, M. Farm., as Deputy for Supervision of Traditional Medicines, Health Supplements, and Cosmetics of BPOM RI, Dr. Apt. Agusdini Banun Saptaningsih, MARS, as Director General of Pharmacy and Medical Devices of the Indonesian Ministry of Health, as well as Irwan Hidayat.

Furthermore, speakers in the second session were Lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine, Diponegoro University, Semarang Dr. Noor Wijayahadi, MS, Lecturer at Sanata University, Dharma Yogyakarta, Ipang Djunarko, S.S., M.Sc., Apt., and Lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Si. dr. Syazili Mustofa, M. Biomed.

The seminar is divided into two scientific sessions that discuss the supervision of traditional medicines in Indonesia and the good manufacturing practice (GMP)-based herbal industry, as well as the repulsive benefits of the wind, the use of medicinal plants in the discovery of new drugs, and the mechanism for treating diseases.

This seminar is expected to provide insight and inspiration for participants about the benefits and development of herbal medicines in Indonesia.
