Protested Shareholders During Adaro AGMS, Greenpeace: Stop Making Climate Disasters Worse
JAKARTA - The Annual General Meeting of Shareholders (AGMS) of PT Adaro Energy Indonesia Tbk (ADRO) was enlivened by protests by a number of activists who are also ADRO's shareholders.
The protest that was launched was to reject the construction of a coal-fired Steam Power Plant (PLTU) owned by Adaro located in North Kalimantan.
In the video uploaded to the @greenpeaceid account, two activists who entered the room where the GMS took place holding a yellow banner that read "NEW PLTU DEVELOPMENT STOP" while calling for "Stop the construction of a coal power plant. One billion people will be threatened by the climate crisis caused by the coal power plant. Stop the construction of a new coal power plant!"
"Stopping the construction of coal power plants because coal is the main cause of the climate crisis that threatens our future, which threatens my future, the people's future." the activist exclaimed.
In his upload Greenpeace also asked Adaro to stop the construction of the PLTU by writing "I already know the weather is getting hotter and the climate crisis is getting worse instead of being serious about the energy transition, this is actually planning to create a new Coal PLTU," Greenpeace wrote, quoted Thursday, May 25.
Then Greenpeace also asked Adaro not to participate in making climate disasters worse with the construction of coal power plants.
"Come on, Adaro @adaroenergy stop making climate disasters more severe, listen to shareholders, don't invest in destruction anymore. You are getting richer, people who get disaster," concluded Greenpeace.

Meanwhile, the Indonesian Greenpeace Media Campaigner, Rahka Susanto, said that instead of making the transition, Adaro's annegri actually perpetuated the use of dirty coalenegri to build a new PLTU to supply energy to new aluminum smelters.
"The construction of a new coal power plant will only worsen the impact of the climate crisis, pollute the environment and injure Indonesia's commitment to the energy transition process," he said.
He also appealed that it was time for Adaro to listen to the aspirations of shareholders and take responsibility for preventing the impact of the climate crisis.
