Sentani Regional Language Enters 54 Elementary Schools In Jayapura
PAPUA - Papuan regional languages are included in local content subjects in 54 elementary schools (SD) in Jayapura Regency, Papua Province.
Director of the Papuan Traditional School, Orgenes Monim, said that the dozens of elementary schools had been used by his party to apply the Sentani regional language as part of local content subjects.
"We are trying to enter the Sentani regional language into formal education schools through local content subjects in which there is regional language," he said in Jayapura, Papua, Wednesday, May 17, which was confiscated by Antara.
According to Orgenes, regional languages are one of the ingredients of local content subjects at the basic education level at 54 elementary schools.
"Until now it is still running even though there are schools that still experience problems due to limited teaching," he said.

He explained that there are schools that do have special teachers for local content subjects but some have not so that his party will re-evaluate with schools which are pilot projects.
"This is just the first step to measure our ability to integrate regional languages into formal schools," he said.
He added that in the future his party will prepare special Sentani language teachers in existing formal schools in collaboration with the local Education Office.
"We hope that students can be introduced the basics of the Sentani language so that there is a sense of love for the area where students are," he concluded.
