ByteDance Officially Makes Resso Only For Premium Customers Starting May 11

JAKARTA - TikTok's parent company, ByteDance announced that the company officially closed the free version for Resso, its music streaming service, on Wednesday, May 3.

Thus, Resso, which is available in India, Indonesia, and Brazil, will continue as a subscription service or special for Premium customers starting May 11. For those of you who still use Resso supported by advertisements, you will be offered a free Resso Premium trial subscription for 30 days.

"Resso premium has become the best music service in its class by listening to ad-free and sejuRessomalah features that are personalized and social," Ole Obermann, head of global music ByteDance, said in a statement, citing Billboard.

Resso's move to premium special services will allow a better development of user experience for music enthusiasts, while increasing opportunities for copyright holders and artists," added Obermann.

ByteDance initially launched Resso in March 2020, and is currently only available in India, Indonesia and Brazil.

Last year, ByteDance had a conversation with music rights holders about moving its music streaming service to additional countries in Latin America, Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. However, it is complicated by the fact that the music industry expects better payments from other ByteDance companies, seeing the highly successful TikTok app.

Thus, Resso will charge a fee of 16.90 Brazilian Real (Rp49 thousand) per month in Brazil, cheaper than Spotify's monthly subscription of 19.90 (Rp58 thousand)

While users in India will be charged 119 rupees (IDR 21 thousand), the same as the Spotify subscription price on iOS, but it's cheaper by 20 rupees on Android.

"We are committed to building a world-leading social music streaming platform and ensuring that music artists and creators can benefit from their growing success," he concluded.
