Ahead of the 42nd ASEAN Summit, the Ministry of PUPR Accelerates the Development of Supporting Infrastructure in the Labuan Bajo-Tanamori Region

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) continues to accelerate the construction of several supporting infrastructure in the Labuan Bajo-Tana Mori Area, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

This is to welcome the 42nd ASEAN Summit on 9-11 May 2023.

Improving facilities through the construction and greening of infrastructure at the location where the 42nd ASEAN Summit is being held shows Indonesia's commitment to bringing ASEAN into a region that has an important role for the people, for the region, and for the world. This is in accordance with the theme of Indonesia's chairmanship in ASEAN this time, namely ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth.

The improvement of supporting facilities for the ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo-Tana Mori was carried out by the PUPR Ministry through the NTT Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center (BPPW), the Directorate General of Cipta Karya and the NTT National Road Implementation Center (BPJN), as well as the Directorate General of Highways. Improving facilities through the arrangement of areas and road corridors aims to support safety and comfort during the ASEAN Summit.

Head of BPPW NTT Normansjah Wartabone said, currently the progress of work on improving supporting facilities in the Labuan Bajo area has reached 77.25 percent. Meanwhile, the progress of work on improving supporting facilities in the Tana Mori area has reached 96.68 percent.

"All work is targeted to be completed in early May 2023, before the ASEAN Summit takes place," said Normansjah in a written statement, Thursday, May 4.

The scope of work carried out by BPPW NTT, the Directorate General of Cipta Karya in the Labuan Bajo and Tana Mori areas includes the construction of the West Manggarai Police Command Headquarters which currently has progressed to 81.89 percent, the arrangement of Labuan Bajo Marina Promenade Zone 4 which has reached 87.92 percent , then improving the landscape quality of the Labuan Bajo road corridor by embroidering planting media and plant health.

Then, construction of the Roundabout Beach Club was also carried out, the physical progress of which had reached 98.00 percent, the construction of Pier Shelters with progress of 85.76 percent, and the installation of geomats in the Tana Mori Area road corridor.

Meanwhile, Head of BPJN NTT Agustinus Junianto said the scope of work carried out by BPJN NTT also included land and road management in the Labuan Bajo and Tana Mori areas.

"In Labuan Bajo, the VVIP parking lot was arranged at the West Manggarai Regent's Office which has reached 100 percent, the road and sidewalk arrangements for Sp. Binongko-Sp.Sylvia (Jl. Waecicu) with progress reaching 70.87 percent, and the arrangement for the median airport road. (John Sehadun)," he said.

In the Tana Mori Area, BPJN has also arranged the roundabout at the entrance to the ITDC Area whose progress has reached 98.94 percent and strengthening slopes and stabilizing plants on the Labuan Bajo-Tana Mori road section whose progress has reached 100 percent, which was inaugurated by President Jokowi on March 14, 2023.

In addition, the Ministry of PUPR is also building a Munting Child Reservoir between Labuan Bajo to Tana Mori in Warloka Village, Komodo District.

The Anak Munting Reservoir itself has a capacity of 159.000 m3 and an inundation area of ​​4.5 Ha with the main function being to conserve and support tourism in the Labuan Bajo Super Priority Tourism Destination (DPSP) within the framework of the ASEAN Summit.
