Convicts Of Fraud Of Aceh Umrah Congregants Become Fugitives, 45 Victims Lose Almost IDR 1 Billion
The Central Aceh District Attorney (Kejari) has brought the convicted umrah pilgrim fraud suspect on the wanted list (DPO) or fugitive because he was absent when he was about to be executed and served his sentence.
Head of Legal Information and Public Relations of the Aceh High Prosecutor's Office (Kejati) Ali Rasab Lubis said the convict was on behalf of Akmal Hanif (40), a resident of Keude Alue Ie Puteh, Baktya District, North Aceh Regency.
"The convict Akmal Hanif entered the DPO after the prosecutor for the executor of the Central Aceh Kejari had summoned him properly three times to serve his sentence based on the Supreme Court's cassation decision," said Ali Rasab, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, May 3.
The convict Akmal Hanif was sentenced by the panel of judges at the Takengon District Court, Central Aceh Regency, to two years in prison. However, the convict filed an appeal to the Banda Aceh High Court.
However, the panel of judges at the Banda Aceh High Court upheld the decision of the panel of judges at the Takengon District Court and filed an appeal to the Supreme Court. However, the panel of judges of the Supreme Court rejected the cassation and upheld the decisions of the district courts and high courts.
"The determination of this DPO was submitted to the Attorney General's Office in Jakarta. Along with the determination of the DPO, efforts were also made to prevent convicts from leaving the country through related agencies," said Ali Rasab Lubis.

Based on the indictment of the public prosecutor, the convict Akmal Hanif is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of PT El Hanif Tour and Travel, which is located in Banda Aceh.
The convict through his company raised Rp891 million from 45 people to be sent by Umrah to the Holy Land, Saudi Arabia, in 2019.
However, the congregation has not been dispatched by the congregation to carry out Umrah. The congregation asked for the money back, but the money deposited was used by the convict Akmal Hanif.
"Since being designated as a DPO, the prosecutor's team has continued to look for the whereabouts of the convict. The convict is asked to immediately surrender himself to serve the sentence based on the Supreme Court's cassation decision," said Ali Rasab Lubis.
