Crab Mentality, A Condition When Someone Likes To Block The Success Of Others
JAKARTA - A group of crabs is in a container. If one of them manages to climb up and will come out of the container, the other crab will pinch and pull it back to its original place.
The crab does this for the sake of solidarity, because if the crab comes out of the container, the prey will eat it.
Such conditions are often experienced by humans. People try to block other people from leaving the same place, but not for reasons of solidarity, but a form of unfair competition and don't want to see people more successful. This condition is also known as crab mentality, aka crab mental.
In humans, crab mentality is described as selfish behavior and does not like to see the success of others.
You may have been in a family or friendship environment that often brought each other down and didn't like it when any one was more prominent, advanced, and successful.
What was done to drop? Can belittle, overly criticize, ridicule, say things that make other people feel inferior, do not give appreciation for success, even manipulate.
When simplified, crab mentality can be interpreted as "If I can't have it, then other people can't."
A more obvious example, for example, your friends ask you to skip school or work so that they are not alone. If they refuse, they will persuade in such a way. The point is they will do anything so that everyone is on the same level, no more.
In fact, this cannot be denied, that there will always be people who do not like your success.
Being in a competitive environment can make someone experience crab mentality. In addition, if there is a feeling of despair, lack of confidence, jealousy, and even depression, it will make this worse.
People with crab mentality generally have an unhealthy mindset. Even though he may try to move forward and try, but what comes to mind will actually knock other people down so that he doesn't feel left behind.
If you currently feel that you are in such an environment, you will eventually feel depressed, uncomfortable, and insecure. Not only that, you will also miss many opportunities to develop your abilities and opportunities to succeed.
To avoid people with crab mentality, and certainly so that you don't become that kind of person, you should stay focused and optimistic on your own success.
Do what you want to do, no need to hear negative comments from people around you. As long as what you are doing feels right and positive, do it with all your heart.
You don't need to hesitate to develop yourself by learning new things that haven't been done so far. If you feel that you are left behind, that's okay, start over what you wanted to do before. Catch up slowly but surely.
If you feel wrong or fail, do an evaluation. Understand if failure is a process to success. Don't give up when you fail and definitely don't ignore what others say.
Consider staying away from people with crab mentality and choosing friends who are more supportive.
