Potential Violations Of The 2024 Election At The Papua District Level, Bawaslu Hopes That Panwaslu Sorong Can Be Supplied
WEST PAPUA - The Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) of Sorong Regency emphasized the importance of anticipating potential violations at the 2024 General Election stage at the district level in Papua.
Head of Bawaslu Sorong Regency, Regina Gembenop, said that regarding this matter, the participation of each district-level Election Supervisory Committee (Panwaslu) is needed. He views that Panwaslu at the district level also needs to be equipped.
"There is such a thing as briefing through various socializations to increase the capacity of Panwaslu," Regina said in Sorong, West Papua, Thursday, April 13, which was confiscated by Antara.
In addition to socialization, he said, every Panwaslu also needs to increase capacity by learning through various sources to increase knowledge related to handling violations that will occur in the 2024 General Election.
"This is important to be the basis for every supervisor, so as to be able to solve all problems of violations that occur," he said.
He said the implementation of election supervision had been stated in Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning Elections related to the handling of election violations, then Bawaslu Regulation No. 7 of 2018 concerning the handling of findings and reports of election violations, as well as the Joint Bawaslu Regulation, the National Police Chief, and the Attorney General regarding the integrated law enforcement center for the General Election.
"This is a reference and basis for Panwaslu to study and then be able to apply it in carrying out its duties and responsibilities," he said.

Because, according to him, Bawaslu and Panwaslu have the duties and functions of supervision and ensure that all election implementation processes run in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
"So any violations reported by the community or found by Bawaslu and Panwaslu will immediately be followed up because that is our duty," he said.
He added that the task of Bawaslu and Panwaslu is to supervise the General Election Commission (KPU), political parties as election participants and the public as voters.
"This needs to be ensured that it runs in accordance with the applicable legal corridor so that this democratic process really runs well and has quality," he concluded.
