Ministry Of Transportation: Normal Flight Activities After The Majene Earthquake

JAKARTA - The Directorate General of Air Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation confirmed that flight operations were still running normally after the earthquake in the Majene area, West Sulawesi, Thursday January 14 with a magnitude of 6.2 SR.

The Director General of Air Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation Novie Riyanto appealed to all affected airports to carry out regular monitoring regarding the operational conditions of flights at the airport.

"It has been coordinated, we ask all affected airports to carry out regular monitoring to ensure there is no damage that interferes with flight safety. As for flight operations at the airport, it is reported that it is still running normally," he explained as quoted by Antara.

The airports affected by the earthquake were Tampa Padang Airport, Mamuju and Sumarorong Airport, Mamasa.

In general, the condition of employees and airport facilities has no problems, only minor damage to several facilities at the airport and are being repaired.

"The condition of the airport and flight navigation can still serve normal flight operations, while for Sumarorong Airport there is no damage to both air and land side facilities. However, there are cracks on the side of the Mamuju tower building and currently flight navigation services are still operating normally. AFIS status, "explained Makassar Region V Airport Authority Head Baitul Ihwan.

At Tampa Padang Airport, Mamuju, the airport facility is in serviceable condition (no damage), the terminal condition is damaged to the terminal building ceiling, repairs are being temporarily carried out, and PT PLN main electricity is off and the airport is currently using secondary power , while the side of the tower building was experiencing cracks, temporary guidance was carried out at the PK-PPK building.

Meanwhile, at Sumarorong Airport, Mamasa, the air and land side facilities of Sumarorong Mamasa airport are safe and there is no damage, however, the connecting access road between Polewali Mandar and Mamasa Regencies landslides due to the earthquake and heavy rain.

"We have also instructed assistance from the surrounding airports to consolidate and coordinate the distribution plan for operational and / or logistical assistance if possible. Hopefully this disaster can be passed and resolved well," said Director General Novie.
