Coordinating Ministry For Human Development And Culture Encourages Strengthening Education On The Negative Impact Of Child Marriage
JAKARTA - The Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture (Kemenko PMK) encourages ministries/agencies and local governments to strengthen education about the negative impact of child marriage.
"Education and socialization regarding the negative impact of child marriage need to be strengthened," said Assistant Deputy for Nutrition Resilience and Health Promotion at the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture, Jelsi Natalia Marampa, contacted by Antara in Jakarta, Sunday.
Jelsi Natalia Marampa explained that the practice of child marriage or early childhood is feared to affect the health quality of mothers and children.
"For example, the physical condition of a woman who is married under the age of 18, it is feared that her physical condition is not ready to give birth and become a mother. Childbirth is also feared to threaten the lives of mothers and babies," he said.
In addition, child marriage is also feared to be minimal in readiness so that it is not accompanied by a health check before marriage.
"Health checks are important to ensure that prospective brides do not experience anemia," he said.
He explained, if the bride and groom have anemia, they have the opportunity to suffer from anemia while pregnant so that they risk giving birth to a baby with a low birth weight and increase the risk of giving birth to a stunted baby.
Jelsi added, to prevent child marriage, it takes the role of family, especially parents, and the surrounding environment.
"Therefore, education is needed to increase awareness and understanding of families and communities so that together prevent child marriage," he said.
With the involvement of family and community in efforts to prevent child marriage, he said, it is hoped that better awareness and actions can be created to avoid the practice of early marriage.
Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Muhadjir Effendy also invited all parties, especially parents, to prevent child marriage in order to avoid various negative impacts that could be caused.
"As is well known, child marriage is feared to have a negative impact such as domestic violence, divorce, stunting or stunting cases in children who will later be born until the emergence of new poor families," said Muhadjir.
The Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture added that a marriage requires readiness to create a harmonious household, both physically and mentally.
