Bawaslu Reminds After Determination, Celeg-Capres Arrested By Money Politics Threatened To Cancel Participating In The 2024 General Election
JAKARTA - The Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) reminded all political parties (parpol) not to carry out transactional politics at the moment of the 2024 General Election.
Bawaslu chairman Rahmat Bagja warned political parties to pairs promoted in the legislative and presidential elections not to distribute money that could be indicated as money politics through winning or volunteer teams. Chairman of the Indonesian Bawaslu Rahmat Bagja said that political parties participating in the 2024 General Election or pairs of presidential/vice-presidential candidates carried out transactional politics, especially after the determination of candidates for legislative members and pairs of presidential/vice presidential candidates,
Rahmat Bagja emphasized that this was done especially after the determination of candidates for legislative members and pairs of presidential/vice-presidential candidates, the person concerned has the potential to be subject to a high sanction of cancellation as election participants. This was regulated in Article 286 of Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections (UU Elections). In fact, if the practice of transactional politics is proven, as regulated in Article 285 of the Election Law, the perpetrator can be subject to administrative sanctions in the form of cancellation of a list of permanent candidates or cancellation of appointment as elected candidates. The appeal was submitted proposing the case of the division of the PDI-P logo (PDIP) envelope with the images of PDIP faction DPR member Said Abdullah and the Chairman of the PDI-P DP DPC Sumenep Achmad Fauzi in one mosque in Sumenep, East Java, which had gone viral on Twitter. Based on the examination and clarification by the Indonesian Bawaslu through the Sumenep Regency Bawaslu it was concluded that there were no allegations of election violations in the event. Thus, the handling of the alleged election violation could not be carried out.Bawaslu considered the event cannot be categorized as an election violation in this case related to campaigns for a number of reasons. First, legally, the campaign schedule has not yet been started. Based on KPU Regulation Number 3 of 2022 concerning the Stages and Election Schedule of 2024, the campaign starts on November 28, 2023 to February 10, 2024.
