Crystal Palace Sacked Patrick Vieira

JAKARTA - Crystal Palace officially sacked coach Patrick Vieira on Friday after the team won only once in 14 Premier League matches.

Crystal Palace is currently 12th in the standings, but only three points above the relegation zone.

"It is with great regret that this difficult decision has been made," said Crystal Palace owner Steve Parish in an official statement quoted by AFP as reported by ANTARA, Friday, March 17.

"Ultimately, the results in recent months have put us in a precarious league position and we feel a change is needed to give us the best chance of staying in the Premier League."

Palace said in a statement that "the process of appointing a new coach is ongoing."

Three members of Vieira's coaching staff have also left Selhurst Park.

"Patrick has given everything for the club and we all thank him and his team for their work."

Vieira himself replaced Roy Hodgson at the start of the 2021/22 season and led Palace to a 12th-place finish.

However, this season Crystal Palace only scored 21 goals in 27 matches. Their 0-1 loss to Brighton on Wednesday was their third straight loss.

Palace is scheduled to face the top standings team, Arsenal on Sunday (19/3) evening WIB.

Vieira, who won three Premier League titles as a player with Arsenal, previously coached MLS side New York City and French club Nice.

While still playing, Viera has also won the World Cup and European Cup with the French national team.
