Franz Magnis Highlights 3 Challenges Of DPRD And DPR Candidates, Including Corruption
JAKARTA - Professor of the Driyarkara High School Philosophy, Franz Magnis Suseno, revealed that there are three serious challenges that must be addressed by potential representatives of the people in the DPRD and the upcoming DPR. One of them is the character of corruption (tipikor) in the country.
Franz said the first challenge was how to strengthen loyalty to each other in accepting differences among hundreds of ethnic, cultural and religious communities from Sabang to Merauke.
According to him, national identity as an Indonesian nation needs to be seriously imagined.
Receiving each other in differences or how to deal with incidents of intolerance that continue to destroy lives with the nation, he said in a DPR MKD seminar with the theme "To welcome Democracy Contestation; Looking for People's Representatives with Vision, Guidance and Ethical Paradigms" in Jakarta, Friday, March 17, was confiscated by Antara.
The second challenge, he continued, is social justice in realizing prosperity so that the Indonesian nation is not divided vertically.
"The elimination of poverty and the realization of welfare for all needs to be the first priority in Indonesia's development," he said.
Franz said the third challenge, namely corruption, was the most serious challenge for future national leaders and representatives of the people.
"It's important that we choose people who have the principle of being single, that's what we have to demand," he said.
At the end, he added that the current structural problems are also related to the high political costs that have implications for the figure with the capital who can run as a candidate for people's representatives so that the aspirations of the small people will be difficult to represent.
"I think we need more representatives for the ordinary people, who have other thoughts, are not the same as representing the person himself," he added.
Franz views the public discourse that has surfaced regarding the current national leadership candidates only struggling with the issue of a combination of presidential and vice presidential candidates, along with the support provided by political parties in this regard.
In fact, Franz assessed that what the public needs to pay attention to is what policy steps will be taken by certain prospective leaders in addressing various problems of the Indonesian nation. Starting from, how to improve the economy, realizing food sovereignty, preventing intolerance, to advancing education.
"If you are elected president and vice president, as well as if you are elected to represent us, what action will you take? Where is your policy to advance the nation?" said Franz.
