Loris Baz Suffers Broken Bones After Crash with Lowes at WSBK Mandalika

JAKARTA - Bonovo Action BMW racer Loris Baz reportedly suffered a fracture to his right leg and ankle after a crash with Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing) during the second round of the Superpole Race World Superbike (WSBK) session at the Mandalika International Circuit, Lombok, Sunday.

Based on the official WSBK report, this made Baz absent to continue racing in Race 2, which was the final round of WSBK Mandalika this season.

Previously, Baz and Lowes both had crashes before the red flags were raised, but they were able to rejoin the race which was about to restart.

The two drivers were racing close together on Lap 3 heading into Turn 10 while trying to brake, however, Lowes made contact with Baz's leg.

Baz fell and was taken to the medical centre for examination, and was eventually diagnosed with a right proximal fibula and right ankle fracture, which will be examined further with a CT scan.

"Therefore, he will miss Race 2 in the Indonesia Round," said WSBK as quoted by Antara, Sunday.

Meanwhile, Race 2 today will be filled with two Pata Yamaha racers, Toprak Razgatlioglu and Andrea Locatelli, and Lowes in pole position in the race.

Other racers such as Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing), Axel Bassani (Motocorsa Ducati), Xavi Vierge (HRC), Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Aruba. It Ducati), Michael van der Mark (ROKiT BMW Motorrad), Scott Redding (ROKiT BMW Motorrad), Dominique Aegerter (GYTR GRT Yamaha), and so on, will be behind the pole winners this time around.
